Jeff Jakaitis of the South Carolina Stingrays is the Warrior Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Month for December. It is the second time Jakaitis has won the monthly honor this season after also winning in October, and the fourth time in his ECHL career, setting a new league record.
Jakaitis went 6-0-0 with two shutouts, a 1.00 goals-against average and a save percentage of .966 in six appearances during December.
The 30-year-old allowed two goals or less in each of his six appearances in the month, and three times made more than 30 saves in a game, stopping 33 shots in a 5-1 win at Orlando on Dec. 7, turning aside 40 shots in a 3-2 victory at Greenville on Dec. 27 and stopping all 38 shots he faced in a 2-0 win over Elmira on Dec. 31.
Jakaitis is tied for the ECHL lead with 18 wins, while leading the league with a 1.53 goals-against average and a save percentage of .944. He is second in minutes played (1,334), third in saves (578) and is tied for second in shutouts (3).
A native of Rochester, Minn., Jakaitis has appeared in 148 career ECHL games with South Carolina, Gwinnett, Charlotte and Columbia posting an overall record of 78-42-22 with 16 shutouts, a 2.43 goals-against average and a save percentage of .924. Jakaitis was the 2012 ECHL Goaltender of the Year while with Gwinnett, and tied the ECHL record with three consecutive shutouts from Dec. 17-28, 2011.
Jakaitis has also posted a 5-3-1 record in 10 career American Hockey League games with Portland and Worcester.
