Kalamazoo's Gill named ECHL Goaltender of the Month
PRINCETON, N.J. - Riley Gill of the Kalamazoo Wings has been named the ECHL Goaltender of the Month for February. Gill also won the monthly award in October 2010 while playing with the Victoria Salmon Kings.
Gill was 5-1-1 in seven appearances during the month, including a 4-0-0 record in four starts on the road, with one shutout, a 2.63 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage.
After suffering a 4-3 shootout loss in first appearance of the month on Feb. 1 against South Carolina, Gill reeled off four consecutive wins, starting with a 33-save performance in a 4-0 victory against Toledo on Feb. 4, to record the K-Wings’ first shutout of the season. He made 33 saves in a 7-2 win at Greenville on Feb. 9, and had back-to-back 31-save efforts in a 4-3 shootout win at Gwinnett on Feb. 12 and in a 4-3 victory against Cincinnati on Feb. 14.
A native of Northfield, Minn., Gill has appeared in 34 games for Kalamazoo this season going 20-10-4 with one shutout, a 2.89 goals-against average and a save percentage of .906.
Gill has seen action in 61 career ECHL games with Victoria and Kalamazoo posting a record of 34-17-8 with four shutouts, a 2.85 goals-against average and a save percentage of .909. Prior to turning pro, he played four seasons at Western Michigan University where he ended his career with the highest save percentage (.915), most shutouts (8) and second-best goals-against average (2.94) in school history.
