BOISE, Idaho – The ECHL Kelly Cup Champion Idaho Steelheads have signed an affiliation agreement with the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and the Utah Grizzlies of the American Hockey League. In the agreement, Idaho agrees to take up to seven contracted players from Phoenix.
“We are excited about our new affiliation agreement with Idaho,” said Coyotes assistant general manager Laurence Gilman. “The Steelheads are the ECHL Kelly Cup Champions and we are looking forward to working with John Olver and the entire organization which is a first-class operation.”
“Phoenix and Utah will provide us with young talented players who have NHL potential,” said Idaho head coach John Olver. “The affiliation attracts players who want to play here not just because Boise is a great city to play in, but because there is also a great opportunity for advancement to the AHL and the NHL.”
In 2003-04, Idaho had 24 call ups to Utah and one call up to Dallas of the NHL and Steelheads players saw action in 288 games in the AHL and NHL.
