Martin named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week

 

Joel Martin of the Kalamazoo Wings is the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the week of March 3-9. It is the third time in his ECHL career that Martin has won the weekly honor.

 

Martin went 3-0-0 with one shutout, a 1.99 goals-against average and a save percentage of .928 last week, helping the K-Wings move into a tie for first place in the Eastern Conference.

 

The 31-year-old made 25 saves in a 4-3 overtime win at Orlando on Monday, stopped all 27 shots in a 6-0 victory over South Carolina on Friday and had 25 saves in a 4-3 win against Fort Wayne on Sunday.

 

A native of Three Hills, Alberta, Martin is 16-7-4 in 27 appearances with Kalamazoo this season with three shutouts, a 2.75 goals-against average and a save percentage of .909. Last season, he set an ECHL record by playing 3,739 minutes while his 63 games played and 2,051 saves are second all-time in a single season in league history.

 

Martin has appeared in 179 career ECHL games with Kalamazoo, Augusta, Elmira, Trenton and Columbus posting an overall record of 90-67-17 with six shutouts, a 2.96 goals-against average and a save percentage of .909. He has also seen action in 22 career games in the American Hockey League with Cleveland, Norfolk, Syracuse and Bridgeport. 

           

Runners Up: Gerald Coleman, Alaska (1-0-1, 0.96 GAA, .962 save pct.) and Mark Guggenberger, Gwinnett (2-0-0, 2.00 GAA, .941 save pct.).
