Martin named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Joel Martin of the Kalamazoo Wings is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Dec. 31-Jan. 6.

The 30-year-old went 3-1-0 with a 1.97 goals-against average and a save percentage of .933 in four appearances last week.

Martin opened the week with 30 saves in a 3-2 win against Cincinnati on Monday, made 23 saves in a 2-0 loss to Toledo on Friday and stopped 27 shots in a 7-3 victory over Evansville on Saturday. He ended the week with 31 saves, and stopped all five shootout attempts, in a 2-1 win at Toledo on Sunday.

A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Martin has appeared in a league-high 29 games this season posting a record of 13-13-3 with one shutout, a 2.65 goals-against average and a save percentage of .917. He has started 18 consecutive games for the K-Wings dating back to Nov. 23.

Martin has appeared in 118 career ECHL games with Kalamazoo, Augusta, Elmira, Trenton and Columbus with an overall record of 56-49-9 with three shutouts, a 3.07 goals-against average and a save percentage of .901. He also has appeared in 22 career games in the American Hockey League with Cleveland, Norfolk, Syracuse and Bridgeport.

Runners Up: Gerald Coleman, Alaska (2-0-0, 1.00 GAA, .964 save pct.) and Jordan Pearce, Toledo (2-0-1, 1.62 GAA, .944 save pct.).
