INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — The Missouri Mavericks announced that they have signed forwards John Schiavo and Liam Stewart to contracts for the 2015-16 season.
The Mavericks are the ECHL affiliate of the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League.
Schiavo is entering his first professional season after participating in the New York Islanders Mini Camp earlier this off-season. Last season, the 21-year-old recorded 62 points (30g-32a) in 54 games with Merritt of the British Columbia Hockey League.
Stewart spent his 2014-15 season with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League, and made his pro debut during the Kelly Cup Playoffs, scoring a goal in two games with the Quad City Mallards. The 20-year-old notched 132 points (57g-75a) in 251 career games with Spokane.
