Burton, 23, joined the Nailers at the conclusion of the 2013-14 season, following a four-year collegiate career at Clarkson University. He made his professional debut in Wheeling’s 5-1 win over Elmira on March 30, while also appearing in the club’s 3-0 triumph over Toledo on April 2nd. He recorded one shot on goal during each game, while posting an even rating.
During his time with the Golden Knights, Burton put up strong numbers both on the ice and in the classroom, as he was named to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team as a sophomore, junior and senior. After collecting a total of 14 points in his first 64 games at Clarkson, Burton’s productivity reached new heights during his junior season. In 2012-13, the Echo Bay, Ontario native compiled 20 points (12g-8a) in 35 games, before tacking on another 20 points (11g-9a) in 42 games as a senior in 2013-14. Burton’s junior season efforts led him to the team’s Richmond Unsung Hero Award, while his senior season performance helped earn him the Fran Neragin Award, presented to the player who displays unselfish play and sportsmanship both on and off of the ice.
