PRINCETON, N.J. – Wheeling Nailers forward Sean Collins is the CCM Vector ECHL Rookie of the Month for October.
Registering at least a point in every game and averaging over two points per game, the 22-year-old Collins finished his first month as a professional as the league leader among rookies with six assists and tied for the rookie lead with 10 points in four games. He was tied for second among all ECHL players in assists and tied for third in scoring as the Nailers went 3-1-0.
Selected in the ninth round (289th overall) by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Collins made his pro debut on October 22 and scored a goal in Wheeling’s 5-3 loss at Trenton. Playing the first of three games in three nights, he had an unassisted goal and three assists in a 6-5 shootout win against Reading on October 28. He had two assists in a 4-2 win against Dayton on October 29 and scored two goals, both on the power play, and added an assist in a 4-3 win at Dayton on October 30.
