Nailers Sign Rookie Krantz

WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling Nailers announced that they have signed rookie defenseman Doug Krantz.

The Nailers are the ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League. The head coach of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is former ECHL player Dan Bylsma and the assistant coach is former ECHL player Todd Reirden.

Krantz, who turns 25 years old on Friday, played the last four seasons at Cornell University where he had 38 points (15g-23a) and 73 penalty minutes in 131 games from 2004-05. He signed with Texas in the Central Hockey League after completing his season in 2007-08 and had two assists and four penalty minutes in 11 playoff games.
