WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling Nailers, ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, announced that the team has signed defenseman Brett Stern for the 2015-16 season.
Stern, 23, got an early start on his professional career at the tail end of the 2014-15 season, when he appeared in two games with the Orlando Solar Bears. Prior to that, he attended Minnesota State University-Mankato for four years. During his time with the Mavericks, Stern appeared in 137 games, notching 24 points (6g-18a) and 139 penalty minutes. In his senior season, Stern was named team captain, after serving as an alternate captain during his junior campaign.
The Lino Lakes, Minn. native also played one season of junior hockey with the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers, recording six points (1g-5a) and 27 penalty minutes in 31 games, while posting a +14 rating.
