Neuvirth Named The MeiGray Group ECHL Alumns Of The Month

PRINCETON, NJ- Former ECHL and current Washington Capitals goaltender Michal Neuvirth is The MeiGray Group ECHL Alumnus of the Month for November.

 

The leading distributor of game- worn hockey jerseys and “Official Game-Worn Jersey Source of the ECHL,” MeiGray sold more than 700 game-worn jerseys in 2009-10 and has sold more than 5,500 since it became “The Official Game- Worn Jersey Source of the ECHL” in 2002-03.

 

The 21 year old was 5-0-1 with a goals-against average of 3.19 and a save percentage of .894 in eight appearances for the Capitals in the month of November. In the midst of winning four straight starts from Nov. 9-17 and as part of his personal six game winning streak, Neuvirth recorded a season high 38 saves in a 6-3 win over Tampa Bay on Nov.11.

 

Neuvirth has appeared in 20 games for Washington this season going 12-4-1 with a goals-against average of 2.59 and a save percentage of .910. He was selected as the NHL Rookie of the Month for October after going 7-3-0 with a 2.15 goals-against average and a save percentage of .926.

 

The Usi Labem, Czech Republic native played in 13 games with the South Carolina Stingrays in 2008-09 posting a 6-7-0 record with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.28 and a save percentage of .918. After being called up to the Hershey Bears of the AHL, Neuvirth posted a record of 24-11-2 with a goals against average of 2.45 and a save percentage of .916 from 2008-10. He led Hershey to back-to-back Calder Cup titles in 2009 and 2010, appearing in 40 Calder Cup Playoff games for the Bears going 30-10 with five shutouts, a goals-against average of 1.98 and a save percentage of .927.

 

Selected in the second round (34th overall) by the Washington Capitals in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Neuvirth has played 41 games in three years for the Capitals where he has posted a record of 23-8-1 with a goals against average of 2.72 and a save percentage of .911.

 

There have been 451 players who have played in the NHL after playing in the ECHL including eight this season and 35 in 2009-10. The ECHL has had 259 players reach the NHL since 2002-03 when it changed its focus to become the primary developmental league for the NHL and the AHL. The ECHL had 97 players reach the NHL in its first 10 seasons and 215 in the first 15 years. There have been 195 ECHL players who have played their first game in the last six seasons for an average of more than 32 per year.
