GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Greenville Grrrowl announced that defensemen Vladimir Gusev and Cody Blanshan have been assigned to the team by the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League. Guzev and Blanshan both spent training camp with the Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL and the Admirals.
The Grrrowl is the ECHL affiliate of the Blackhawks and the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League and the Admirals of the AHL.
Selected in the fourth round (115th overall) by Chicago in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, the 22-year-old Gusev had 19 points (8g-11a) and 113 penalty minutes in 70 regular season games and six penalty minutes in four Kelly Cup Playoff games with Greenville in 2004-05 and six penalty minutes in two games with Norfolk.
Selected in the eighth round (238th overall) by the New York Islanders in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, the 21-year-old Blanshan had 27 points (6g-21a) and 115 penalty minutes in 69 regular season games and five points (1g-4a) and 14 penalty minutes in 11 playoff games with Medicine Hat in the Western Hockey League in 2004-05.
