Ottawa Re-Signs Former ECHL Defenseman Nycholat

OTTAWA, Ontario – The Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League announced that they have re-signed defenseman Lawrence Nycholat, who played in the ECHL as a rookie.

In his first professional season in 2000-01, Nycholat had three points (1g-2a) in five games with Jackson of the ECHL while also playing in the original International Hockey League with Cleveland where he had 10 points (3g-7a) in 42 regular season games and one goal in 14 playoff games.

Ottawa acquired him from the Washington Capitals on Feb. 27, 2007 in exchange for Andy Hedlund and a sixth-round draft choice.

The 28 year old was one of 11 former ECHL players chosen to participate in the 2007 Rbk Hockey American Hockey League All-Star Classic and was one of four former ECHL players selected to start for the Canadian team.

He did not play in the game, however, after being recalled to Washington on Dec. 23, 2006 while leading AHL defensemen with 28 points (3g-25a) in 29 games, finishing the season with eight points (2g-6a) in 18 games with the Capitals while also appearing in one game for the Senators.
