Painchaud named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week


Brampton Beast forward Chad Painchaud is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Feb. 9-15. It is the second time in his career that he has won the weekly honor.


Painchaud scored nine goals and added an assist for 10 points as Brampton won two of three games at Rapid City last week.


The 28-year-old scored two goals in a 6-3 loss on Tuesday, scored four goals in a 5-0 win on Friday and had three goals and an assist in another 5-0 victory on Saturday. He became just the ninth ECHL player in the last 17 years to record hat tricks in back-to-back games.


A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Painchaud leads the Beast with 16 goals and 44 points in 46 games this season and is third in the league with 178 shots on goal.


Selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the fourth round (106th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Painchaud has tallied 359 points (149g-210a) in 388 career ECHL games with Brampton, South Carolina, Chicago, Reading, Victoria, Charlotte, Bakersfield and Gwinnett. He has also appeared in 47 career AHL games with Chicago, Iowa, Manitoba and Norfolk. 


On behalf of Chad Painchaud, a case of pucks will be donated to a Brampton youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 31,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
