KALAMAZOO — In the theater, many an understudy waits for the chance to make the leap to the starring role.
Patrick Asselin’s passion is hockey. But like any good young actor, the second-year pro was ready when called upon to step into the spotlight for the Kalamazoo Wings.
After playing wherever he was needed for most of the season, Asselin moved up to the No. 1 line to join Rick Cleaver and Mathieu Curadeau for the first game of Kalamazoo’s four-game road trip last week when Trent Daavettila became ill.
