Pittsburgh Signs Roy

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins announced that they have signed former Charlotte right wing Andre Roy. Wheeling is the ECHL affiliate of the Penguins and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.

In 1997-98, Roy had 18 points and 132 penalty minutes in 27 regular season games and five points and 34 penalty minutes in seven Kelly Cup Playoff games for Charlotte and 14 points (3g-11a) and 154 penalty minutes in 36 regular season games with Providence of the American Hockey League.

The 30-year-old Roy helped Tampa Bay win its first Stanley Cup in 2003-04, registering three points (1g-2a) and 61 penalty minutes in 21 playoff games and two points (1g-1a) and 78 penalty minutes in 33 regular season games.

The 6-4 and 221-pound Roy has 52 points (25g-27a) and 734 penalty minutes in 310 career NHL regular season games and four points (1g-3a) and 81 penalty minutes in 33 career NHL postseason games.
