2015-16 Sher-wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week Q&A
Barry Almeida –October 16-18
ECHL: Five goals in two games for yourself, Sher-wood ECHL Player of the Week designation, and two road victories for your team – what does it mean, both personally, and for your team, to get the 2015-16 ECHL Season off to such a successful start?
Barry Almeida: I think for our team this was a great start to the regular season. To be able to close out two games in Colorado this early in the season says a lot about our hockey team and we just have to build off that.
ECHL: You certainly have Championship experience on your hockey resume having won two National Championships at Boston College and an ECHL Kelly Cup in Reading. How do you use this experience to help motivate and inspire your teammates as the Grizzlies chase the Kelly Cup?
BA: The ultimate goal every season for me is to win a championship, so doing so before definitely helps, but it also makes me hungrier to try and win another.
ECHL: Your teammate, T.J. Syner, is your cousin by marriage. You guys have played hockey together since you were young boys. What does it mean for you to have that familiarity with one of your teammates? How do you use that familiarity to benefit the team?
BA: TJ and I are close, we skate and workout together in the summer, so it’s easy for us to work on little things together. I think being able to do that has helped us become more familiar with one another.
ECHL: You’re only two games into the season, but based on Training Camp and your first two games, what do you think is unique about the 15-16 Grizzlies Team? What are your goals for the Season?
BA: The goals as a team this Season is to win our division and ultimately win the Kelly Cup.
ECHL: Looking back on your career to this point, what has been your proudest ‘hockey moment’ so far?
BA: My proudest hockey moment so far is winning a national championship my senior season at Boston College. To be able to go out on top and win my last game is something special to me.
