NEW YORK – The New York Rangers announced that they re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Thomas Pöck, who had two assists and two penalty minutes in three games with Charlotte of the ECHL in 2004-05. Charlotte is the ECHL affiliate of the Rangers and Hartford of the American Hockey League.
The 23-year-old Pöck spent the majority of the 2004-05 season with Hartford where he had six points (1g-5a) and 55 penalty minutes in 50 games. He joined the Austrian National Team on February 7 to participate in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament and returned to Hartford on February 15.
The 6-1 and 208-pound Pöck has played in six games with the Rangers, registering four points (2g-2a) and 16 penalty minutes. He made his Rangers debut and tallied his first NHL goal on March 23 against Pittsburgh and on March 25 had an assist against Nashville, becoming the first Rangers rookie to record points in his first two career NHL games since Ken Gernander in 1996.
