The Idaho Steelheads defeated the Colorado Eagles in four overtimes on Monday, ending the longest game in ECHL history. David de Kastrozza scored the game-winning goal at 17:18 of the fourth overtime, ending the game in 137:18. The previous record for longest game was Elmira defeating Trenton 5-4 in 126:10 on April 10, 2009.
Other records set or tied in Game 6 include:
* Idaho goaltender Josh Robinson tied the league record with 83 saves. Pensacola’s Brian Ecklund also stopped 83 shots on April 14, 2004 in a 2-1 loss to Louisiana in double overtime of the Central Division Semifinals.
* Colorado tied the ECHL record with 85 shots on goal, matching the mark set by Louisiana in the aforementioned game.
* The two teams combined for 151 shots on goal – Colorado with 85 and Idaho with 66 – setting a new ECHL record for most shots on goal in one game, breaking the previous mark of 145 set in the Elmira/Trenton game in 2009.
With the win, the Steelheads advance to meet Alaska in the Western Conference Semifinals with Game 1 set for Thursday in Anchorage.
