Rivermen Sign Alaska’s Benson
St. Louis Reassigns Aces’ Wellar To Peoria

ANCHORAGE – The Alaska Aces announced that left wing Hans Benson has signed a professional tryout agreement with the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League and that the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League have reassigned defenseman Patrick Wellar to Peoria.

The Aces are the ECHL affiliate of the Blues of the NHL and the Rivermen of the AHL.

The 23-year-old Benson is third in the ECHL with 233 penalty minutes and has five points (2g-3a) in 33 games for Alaska.

Selected in the third round (77th overall) by the Washington Capitals in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft and under NHL contract to St. Louis, the 23-year-old Wellar has 14 points (7g-7a) and 101 penalty minutes in 53 games for Alaska and two penalty minutes in two games with Peoria.
