RoadRunners Acquire All-Star Kowalski

PHOENIX – The Phoenix RoadRunners announced that they have acquired All-Star goaltender Craig Kowalski from the Gwinnett Gladiators in exchange for center Bryan Esner.

The RoadRunners are the ECHL affiliate of Worcester of the AHL and the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League. The head coach of Worcester is Roy Sommer, who led Richmond to the Riley Cup championship in 1995 and was named ECHL Coach of the Year in 1995-96 after leading Richmond to the Brabham Cup title with a league-record 105 points. The assistant coach for Worcester is former ECHL player David Cuniff and the equipment manager is Vinny Ferraiuolo, who worked in the ECHL.

Kowalski was 29-11-2 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.33 and a save percentage of .923 in 44 regular season games for Gwinnett in 2007-08 while also playing in the AHL where he was 2-1-0 with a shutout, a goals-against average of 2.36 and a save percentage of .923 in four games for Syracuse.
