Reading, Pa. – The Reading Royals, ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League and Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League, announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Domenic Monardo.
Last season Monardo, who was selected the Royals’ Rookie of the Year, was the third-leading scorer for the team with 46 points (27g-19a) in 70 regular-season games. He had one assist in five playoff games for Reading. Monardo’s 27 regular-season goals led the team and led all rookies in the ECHL. He also set a new Royals’ record for most goals in a season by a first-year player.
Prior to turning pro, Monardo capped a stellar four-year career at Lake Superior State University with a magical senior season. He led the Central Collegiate Hockey Association with 20 goals and, for the second consecutive season, led the Lakers in scoring with 31 points (20g-11a) in 39 games. At the conclusion of the season, Monardo, who served as team captain in his senior year at LSSU, was selected as the team’s Most Valuable Player and Most Valuable Forward, as well as the school’s outstanding male athlete.
Monardo joined the Gwinnett Gladiators in late March after the conclusion of his senior year at LSSU. He played three regular-season games with the Gladiators, but really took off in the playoffs, where he recorded a point in seven of the nine postseason games he played and was tied for the team lead with four playoff goals.
