READING, Pa. – Thirteen months ago, the Reading Royals were looking back on what went wrong after missing the playoffs for the first time in four years.
It’s a different feel this spring.
The Royals overcame a regular season of ups, downs and injuries and put together a spirited playoff run that ended one win short of the conference finals.
It was a step forward for the organization. The tough part with minor-league sports, though, is players move on and teams must start fresh the next year.
“It’s not like the same group is going to be back here to build on what we did,” said coach Karl Taylor, who is expected to return for a fourth season behind the bench. “We have to start over again. That’s the hard part coaching-wise and also with the fans. It makes losing that much more painful because this group will be moving on.”
