Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed forward Ryan Cruthers.
Last season, Cruthers, who hails from Farmingdale, New York, led the Royals in scoring with 71 points (22g-49a=71pts) and 71 penalty minutes in 60 regular season games. Cruthers also played four games at the beginning of last year with the Texas Brahmas of the Central Hockey League and eight games during two call-ups with Norfolk Admirals of the AHL during the regular season. Cruthers, who was selected as the Royals’ Offensive Player of the Year, led the ECHL in playoff scoring with 24 points (8g-16a)in 16 post-season games.
Cruthers, who will be entering his third season of pro this year, led Mississippi in goals (29), assists (37) and points (66) in his rookie season, when he was selected to represent the SeaWolves at the 2009 ECHL All-Star game, which was held in Reading. Prior to turning pro, Cruthers played two seasons of college hockey for the U.S. Military Academy, where he won the Outstanding Freshman Award before transferring to Robert Morris University. While at RMU, Cruthers had two spectacular seasons, which culminated with being selected as College Hockey America’s Player of the Year in 2008.
