READING, Pa. – The Reading Royals announced that they have signed defensemen Kevin Schaeffer and Steve Ward and forward Jason McCrimmon. It was also announced that goaltenders Miro Recicar and Nick Niedert have been invited to attend training camp.
The Royals are the ECHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.
Selected in the sixth round (193rd overall) by the Nashville Predators in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, the 23-year-old Schaeffer had seven points (2g-5a) and 21 penalty minutes in 19 regular season games and four points (1g-3a) and eight penalty minutes in 11 Kelly Cup Playoff games for Reading as a rookie in 2007-08 while also playing in the AHL where he had two points (1g-1a) and six penalty minutes in 31 games for Providence.
The 22-year-old Ward had 14 points (1g-13a) and 49 penalty minutes in 45 games for Florida as a rookie in 2007-08 while also playing in the AHL where he had eight points (1g-7a) and 15 penalty minutes in 28 regular season games and one assist and four penalty minutes in seven playoff games for Albany.
The 25-year-old McCrimmon played in the Central Hockey League as a rookie in 2007-08 and had 25 penalty minutes in six games with Mississippi while also playing in the Mid-Atlantic Hockey League where he had three points (1g-2a) and 49 penalty minutes in 10 games for Indiana and in the International Hockey League where he had 32 penalty minutes in 13 games for Muskegon.
