READING, Pa. – The Reading Royals announced that they have signed right wing John Morlang and forward Steve Simoes (pictured).
The Royals are the ECHL affiliate of the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League and the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League.
In 2004-05, the 23-year-old Morlang had 15 points (6g-9a) in 46 games with Bridgeport of the AHL and 37 points (16g-21a) in 36 regular season games and 10 points (3g-7a) in 11 playoff games with Danbury of the United Hockey League. The 6-foot-2 and 205-pound Morlang played his first two professional seasons in the ECHL with Columbus scoring 82 points (37g-45a) in 139 games.
In 2004-05 with Laredo of the Central Hockey League, the 25-year-old Simoes had 30 points (12g-18a) and 90 penalty minutes in 51 regular season games and 24 penalty minutes in 16 playoff games. In his rookie season with Laredo in 2003-04, the 6-foot-2 and 205-pound Simoes had 34 points (17g-17a) and 116 penalty minutes in 58 regular season games and 12 points (4g-8a) and 14 penalty minutes in 16 playoff games.
