Victoria, BC – The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that they have signed center Rob Hennigar for the 2010-11 season.
Hennigar became a free agent this summer after completing a two-year NHL contract. The 27-year old was originally signed to a deal by the New York Islanders after finishing a standout CIS career with the University of New Brunswick (UNB) Varsity Reds. At the end of his first season in the Islanders’ system he was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes and competed within their affiliation chain last season.
The Jordan, ON native joins the Salmon Kings after playing 23 games in 2009-10 split between Carolina’s affiliates, the ECHL’s Florida Everblades and American Hockey League (AHL’s) Albany River Rats. The majority of his season was spent in Florida where he registered 23 points (8g-15a) and 10 penalty minutes in 17 games played. He also participated in six games on call-up with the River Rats where he notched five assists.
