Scheer Invited To NBA All-Star Game

DENVER – Carl Scheer, owner of the Charlotte Checkers and the Greenville Grrrowl as well as the Charlotte Hornets’ first general manager, is attending All-Star Weekend as guest of the NBA and Denver Nuggets. Scheer had two stints in the Nuggets front office, and helped originate the idea of All-Star Saturday when the event came to Denver in 1984.

He had to convince the NBA back then that fans would actually buy tickets to skills competitions, such as the dunk and 3-point contests. The concept became so popular, baseball and hockey eventually held similar events as part of their all-star events.
