PRINCETON, N.J. – Mississippi forward Mike Scott is the CCM East Coast Hockey League Rookie of the Month for February.
In 14 games in February, the 26-year-old Scott led the Sea Wolves with two game-winning goals and tied for the team and ECHL lead with 22 points as Mississippi went 9-5-0 and moved into first place in the Southwest Division. Scott was second on the team with five power-play goals and 14 assists while tying for second with eight goals.
The 6-1 and 195-pound Scott had seven multiple-point games in February and has 15 multiple-point games in 2002-03.
Scott scored six points (1g-5a) in the first four games of the month extending his scoring streak to a career-best nine games (Jan. 11-Feb. 6). After going scoreless for three games, he registered a career-high four assists in a 5-4 win at Baton Rouge on February 13, beginning a streak of five multiple-point games. Scott had a goal and an assist in a 7-1 win at Arkansas on February 15, beginning a six-game goal-scoring streak. He recorded his first game-winning goal of the season in the Sea Wolves 4-1 victory at Louisiana on February 16. He scored his second game-winning goal and had his second two-goal game of the season in a 3-2 win against Pensacola on February 23.
Born in Whitehorse, Yukon, Scott is tied for fifth among ECHL rookies with 33 assists and is tied for seventh in scoring with 53 points.
Acquired in a trade with Atlantic City on October 29, Scott is tied for third on the team with 33 assists and 20 goals while ranking fourth in scoring with 53 points in 52 games. He was named Mississippi’s Rookie of the Month in November, December, January and February.
Scott began his professional career with Atlantic City in 2001-02 scoring two points (1g-1a) in four regular season games and four points (4g-0a) in 12 games in the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
