Smithson Signs Extension With Predators

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League announced that forward Jerred Smithson, who played in the ECHL as a rookie, to a two-year contract extension.

The Kelly Cup champion Cincinnati Cyclones are the ECHL affiliate of the Predators of the NHL and the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League.

The 29 year old had an assist and four penalty minutes in three games with Trenton in 2000-01 before being called up to Lowell of the AHL where he had two points (1g-1a) and 10 penalty minutes in 24 regular season games and two penalty minutes in two playoff games.

Smithson had career highs with 81 games, seven goals and 16 points for the Predators in 2007-08 while tying his personal best with nine assists.

Originally signed by Los Angeles as a free agent on Feb. 18, 2000, Smithson signed with Nashville on July 22, 2004. He has 45 points (17g-28a) and 171 penalty minutes in 141 regular season NHL games and 23 penalty minutes in 14 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
