Reading, Pa. – The Reading Royals, ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League and Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League, announced that forward Domenic Monardo has been loaned to the club from the Springfield Falcons of the AHL.
Monardo, a second-year pro from Oakville, Ontario, was originally signed by Reading to an ECHL Standard Players Contract in July of 2014. He earned an AHL contract with the Falcons after attending training camp in Springfield. In 26 games with the Falcons, Monardo has nine points (7g-2a) and picked up 21 penalty minutes.
Last season, Monardo, who earned Reading’s Rookie of the Year award, was the third leading scorer for the Royals with 46 points (27g-19a), while playing to a +11, in 70 regular-season games. Monardo’s 27 goals led the team and led all rookies in the ECHL.
Prior to turning pro, Monardo capped a stellar four year career at Lake Superior State University with a magical senior season. He led the Central Collegiate Hockey Association with 20 goals and, for the second consecutive season, led the Lakers in scoring with 31 points (20g-11a) in 39 games. At the conclusion of the season, Monardo, who served as team captain in his senior year at LSSU, was selected as the team’s Most Valuable Player and Most Valuable Forward—as well as the school’s outstanding male athlete.
