Steelheads Give Laxdal Two-Year Extension

BOISE, Idaho – The Idaho Steelheads announced that they have signed head coach Derek Laxdal to a two-year contract extension through 2011-12.

The 43 year old led Idaho to the Kelly Cup championship in 2007 and he is 171-91-28 in four seasons behind the Steelheads bench.

The Steelheads are the ECHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League and the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League. Matt Climie, BJ Crombeen, Dan Ellis and Tom Wandell each played for the Steelheads and went on to play for Dallas. The head coach of Texas is former Las Vegas Wranglers coach Glen Gulutzan, who was named ECHL Coach of the Year in 2005-06 and was selected to coach in the ECHL All-Star Game three times, tying the record for most appearances.
