Stingrays’ Machesney Called Up To NHL By Capitals

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays announced that rookie goaltender Daren Machesney has been called up to the National Hockey League by the Washington Capitals. Machesney joined the team in Florida and was the Capitals backup goaltender for Thursday’s 6-3 loss to the Panthers.

The Stingrays are the ECHL affiliate of the Capitals of the NHL and the Calder Cup champion Bears of the AHL.

Selected in the fifth round (143rd overall) by Washington in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and under NHL contract to the Capitals, the 20-year-old is 3-3-1 with a goals-against average of 3.18 and a save percentage of .887 in 10 games with Hershey and 2-5-0 with a shutout, a goals-against average of 3.24 and a save percentage of .878 in seven games with South Carolina.
