NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays, ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League, announced that forward Derek DeBlois has rejoined the team after starting the season in the American Hockey League with Lake Erie.
DeBlois, 24, enjoyed a fantastic rookie season with South Carolina last year posting 45 points (21g-24a) in 59 games to lead the club in goals and finish third in points. The Narragansett, R.I. native was a key part of South Carolina’s run to the 2015 Kelly Cup Finals, registering 29 points (11g-18a) in 27 playoff games.
DeBlois, who played his NCAA Hockey at the University of Michigan, also appeared in four games for the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League last season, scoring one goal. DeBlois participated in an NHL Rookie Tournament with the Washington Capitals in September, and attended the club’s training camp before moving to Lake Erie of the AHL. With the Monsters, he skated in a pair of games, notching two penalty minutes and a +1 rating.
