Stingrays Sign Pair Of Netminders

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays announced that they have signed goaltenders Josh Johnson and Bobby Goepfert.

The Stingrays are the ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League.

Selected in the sixth round (171st overall) by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, the 25-year-old Goepfert was 16-15-1 with three shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.60 and a save percentage of .912 in 33 regular season games with Augusta as a rookie in 2007-08.

The 24 year old Johnson was 23-13-1 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.80 and a save percentage of .908 in 37 regular season games with South Carolina as a rookie in 2007-08. He was named Rbk Hockey Goaltender of the Week for Nov. 5-11 and Dec. 24-30 and was selected as the RBC Financial Group ECHL Saver of the Month for December.
