NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – South Carolina Stingrays goalie Jonathan Boutin was hoping his season would be over by now.
With the Stingrays leading 3-1 in their best-of-seven Kelly Cup finals series with Alaska on Saturday night, Boutin was certain he would be celebrating his first ECHL championship this week.
But the Stingrays’ 3-2 overtime loss in Game 5 on Saturday at the North Charleston Coliseum sent the series back to Alaska for Game 6 on Thursday (11:15 p.m.) at Sullivan Arena and has Boutin back in net for South Carolina.
Rookie goalie James Reimer was brilliant during his 39-save performance in Game 5, but Stingrays coach Jared Bednar has switched goalies after every loss during the Kelly Cup playoffs.
