Texas Acquires Rookie Of The Year Leavitt

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Texas Wildcatters announced that they have acquired the ECHL rights of ECHL Rookie of the Year Alex Leavitt in exchange for rookie forward Gino Guyer.

Leavitt has played the entire season in the American Hockey League where he has six points (1g-5a) and four penalty minutes in 11 games for the Houston Aeros, who are the AHL affiliate of the Wildcatters.

Leavitt had 91 points in 72 regular season games for Alaska to become the first rookie in 15 years and only the third in history to lead the ECHL in scoring. He became the second Alaska player in a row to lead the league in assists and had 13 points (1g-12a) in 16 games while helping the Aces capture the Kelly Cup championship.

He was voted to the All-ECHL First Team and to the ECHL All-Rookie Team while also being chosen by league coaches to play in the ECHL All-Star Game where he had a goal in the National Conference’s 7-6 win.
