Texas assigns pair to Steelheads

Boise, Idaho – Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Ralph announced that defenseman Mike Dalhuisen and forward Jesse Root have joined the Idaho Steelheads after being assigned to the team by the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League.

The Steelheads are the ECHL affiliate of Texas and the National Hockey League’s Dallas Stars.

Dalhuisen is a second-year professional out of Quinnipiac University who split his rookie season between Cincinnati and Stockton and, while with the Thunder, ranked second among Stockton’s defensemen in goals with seven, despite playing just 32 games with the team.

Root, 24, is entering his first full pro season after serving as captain at Yale as a senior last season. He was a key part of the Bulldogs’ 2013 NCAA championship team, scoring a goal in the title game against Dalhuisen’s Quinnipiac squad. Earlier in that tournament, Root set an NCAA record by scoring a game-winning overtime goal just nine seconds into the extra session to end the Western Regional semifinal game.
