Texas Receives McNeill From San Antonio

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Texas Wildcatters announced that defenseman Grant McNeill has been assigned to the team from San Antonio of the American Hockey League and is expected to be in the lineup when the Wildcatters play at Louisiana on Friday.

Selected in the third round (68th overall) by the Florida Panthers in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, the 21-year-old McNeill has one assist and 44 penalty minutes in 12 games with San Antonio. In his first professional season in 2003-04, the 6-2 and 220-pound McNeill played in the AHL with San Antonio, accumulating 110 penalty minutes in 33 games, and in the NHL with Florida, getting five penalty minutes in three games.

The Wildcatters also announced that they have traded forward Tony Lawrence to Bakersfield in exchange for financial considerations and the rights to right wing Curtis Huppe, who is currently playing overseas with the Belfast Giants. Lawrence has scored eight points (3g-5a) in 22 games for Texas.
