This week in ECHL history



As part of the ECHL’s 25th anniversary, each week the League will take a look back at important moments in ECHL history.

Jan. 30, 1990 – Former Johnstown goaltender Scott Gordon becomes the first former ECHL player to reach the NHL when he debuts with the Quebec Nordiques.

Jan. 30, 1994 – Nashville scores 16 goals in a game against Huntington, setting the ECHL record for most goals scored by one team in a game.

Feb. 2, 1993 – The Wheeling Thunderbirds host the first-ever ECHL All-Star Game. The East defeats the West 7-3. Wheeling’s Darren Schwartz is named the game’s Most Valuable Player scoring two goals and adding two assists.
