The Toledo Walleye host the Fort Wayne Komets tonight at 7:35 p.m. ET in Game 7 of their East Division Finals series. It marks just the 29th Game 7 in the ECHL’s 27-year history. It is the fifth Game 7 in the 2015 Kelly Cup Playoffs, which is the second most in a single postseason in ECHL history behind the six Game 7s that took place in the 2009 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
Toledo defeated Wheeling in a Game 7 in the North Division Semifinals, and is the seventh team in ECHL history to appear in two Game 7s in a single postseason. The Walleye look to join Dayton (2007), Las Vegas (2009) and Cincinnati (2010) as teams to win both of their Game 7s in the same year.
This is Fort Wayne’s first appearance in a Game 7 in the Kelly Cup Playoffs. Each of the Komets’ three wins in the series have come in overtime, as the three overtime games are tied for the second most in a single series in ECHL postseason history.
The home team is 20-8 all-time in ECHL Game 7’s, and has won six straight and 16 of the last 22. Five times a Game 7 has gone to overtime, with three of those being decided in double overtime. The home team has won four of the five Game 7s decided in overtime, including Toledo in the previous round.
Tonight’s game is available for viewing on ECHL.TV.
