Ulmer Signs With San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League announced that they have signed center Layne Ulmer, who began his professional career with Charlotte of the ECHL.

In his first professional season in 2001-02, the 6-foot-1 and 211-pound Ulmer scored 35 points (18g-17a) in 38 regular season games and four points (2g-2a) in five playoff games with Charlotte while also registering five assists in 22 regular season games with Hartford of the AHL.

Ulmer, who will turn 25 on September 14, had 37 points (7g-30a) in 65 games with Hartford in 2004-05, ranking third on the team in plus-minus rating (+16) and assists.

Selected in the seventh round (209th overall) by Ottawa in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Ulmer was signed as a free agent by the New York Rangers on June 13, 2001 and made his NHL debut with the Rangers on April 3, 2004.
