PRINCETON, N.J. – B.J. Boxma of the Victoria Salmon Kings is the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for February 20-26.
The 24-year-old went 2-0-1 with an overtime win, a shootout win and an overtime loss while posting a goals against of 2.49 and a save percentage of .924 in games against Alaska and Las Vegas, who rank first and second, respectively, in the ECHL in points and were the first two teams to quality for the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
The 6-foot and 200-pound Boxma made 30 saves in regulation, including all 10 shots in the third period, and stopped two shots in overtime as the Salmon Kings won 3-2 in overtime at Las Vegas, only the fifth loss in 22 games at home for the Wranglers. After making 33 saves in regulation and stopping two of three shots in overtime of a 3-2 loss to Alaska on Feb. 24, Boxma had 25 saves in regulation and stopped all five shots in overtime before denying four of five shooters in the shootout of a 4-3 win against the Aces on Feb. 25.
In his first full season with Victoria and in the ECHL, Boxma improved to 4-11-4 and lowered his goals against to 3.20 while raising his save percentage to .900 in 21 games.
