Toledo, Ohio – Defenseman Joel Chouinard has agreed to terms with the Toledo Walleye for the 2014-15 season.
The Walleye are the ECHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League and the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.
Chouinard spent the entire 2013-14 season with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League, skating in 67 contests and notching nine points (2g-7a). Since turning professional in 2010, the native of Sherbroke, Quebec has appeared in 165 AHL games with Hamilton and Lake Erie, scoring 36 points (10g-26a) and adding 101 penalty minutes. A sixth-round selection (167th overall) of the Colorado Avalanche in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Chouinard also spent time in the Central Hockey League in 2012-13, recording 20 points (6g-14a) in 42 games with Denver.
Prior to turning professional, Chouinard spent three-plus seasons skating with Victoriaville of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, including being an alternate captain in 2008-09 and 2009-10. With the Tigres, the 6’1", 187-pound defenseman set career highs in 2009-10 with 23 goals, 45 assists, 68 points and a +23 rating.
