The Toledo Walleye and Reading Royals will decide their Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series in the 33rd Game 7 in ECHL postseason history on Tuesday. Face-off from the Huntington Center in downtown Toledo is set for 7:35 p.m. ET.
Toledo forced the deciding game with a 3-1 win at Reading on Sunday. This is the fourth consecutive series for the Walleye that has gone the distance. Last year, Toledo defeated Wheeling 2-1 in overtime in the North Division Semifinals and Fort Wayne 5-2 in the North Division Finals before falling to South Carolina 1-0 in triple overtime in the Eastern Conference Finals. Prior to last season, Toledo had never before played a Game 7 in an ECHL playoff series.
Reading also experienced a Game 7 last year, dropping a 3-2 decision at South Carolina in the East Division Semifinals. The Royals have an all-time record of 1-3 in Game 7’s defeating Florida 4-1 in the 2013 Eastern Conference Semifinals while falling to Cincinnati in the 2010 American Conference Finals and the 2008 North Division Finals.
The home team is 23-9 all-time in ECHL Game 7’s, and has won 19 of the last 26, including a 7-1 record last season. Six Game 7’s have gone beyond regulation, with three being decided in 2 overtimes and one in 3 overtimes. The home team has won four of the six games decided in overtime.
The winner of tonight’s game advances to meet Wheeling in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The Nailers moved on with a 2-1 win at Florida in Game 6 on Monday.
