WHEELING, W. Va. – The Wheeling Nailers announced that they have signed veteran defenseman Terry Virtue as a player/assistant coach.
The 35-year-old Virtue, who currently resides in Wheeling, played parts of two seasons with the Wheeling Thunderbirds, who later became the Nailers. He had 18 points (3g-15a) and 86 penalty minutes in 31 games in 1992-93 and 33 points (5g-28a) and 61 penalty minutes in 34 regular season games and four points (2g-2a) in six postseason games in 1993-94. Virtue began his professional career in the ECHL in 1991-92 and has 110 points (13g-97a) and 454 penalty minutes in 154 regular season games and 12 points (2g-10a) and 53 penalty minutes in 19 playoff games.
Entering his 15th professional season, Virtue has 379 points (86g-293a) and 1,792 penalty minutes in 849 regular season games and 40 points (8g-32a) and 207 penalty minutes in 90 playoff games in the American Hockey League. He also played in the National Hockey League appearing in four games with Boston in 1998-99 and one game with the New York Rangers in 1999-2000.
