Wheeling's Barton named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – Chris Barton of the Wheeling Nailers is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Nov. 14-20. 

 

The 24-year-old forward scored four goals, added two assists and was a +4 as Wheeling went 2-1-0 last week in games against Elmira and Trenton.

 

Barton started the week by tallying two goals and an assist for a three-point game in Wheeling’s 5-3 win against Elmira on Tuesday. In Friday’s game against the Titans, Barton scored the tying goal late in the second period, and added an assist, in the Nailers 3-2 overtime win. On Sunday, Barton scored to tie the game in the third period, but Wheeling fell to Trenton, 3-2.

 

A native of Calgary, Alberta, Barton is tied for second in the ECHL with 11 goals and is fourth with 20 points. He also leads all rookies in points and goals, and is tied for third among rookies with nine assists. Barton is currently on a nine-game point streak, the second longest in the ECHL this season, during which he has recorded 17 of his 20 points.

 

Prior to this season, Barton played in 141 career games at Merrimack College, where he scored 48 goals and 71 assists for 119 points. He also skated in one game in the AHL for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers last season.

 

On behalf of Chris Barton, a case of pucks will be donated to a Wheeling youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 25,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
