ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League announced that they have re-signed right wing Derek Boogaard, who began his professional career in the ECHL.
The Texas Wildcatters are the ECHL affiliate of the Wild of the NHL and the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League.
Selected in the seventh round (202nd overall) by Minnesota in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, the 25 year old had 240 penalty minutes in three points (1g-2a) in 33 regular season games and also played in two Kelly Cup Playoff games for Louisiana as a rookie in 2002-03.
The 6-foot-7 and 254-pound forward had one assist and a team-leading 120 penalty minutes in 48 regular season games for the Wild in 2006-07 and had one assist and 20 penalty minutes in four playoff games for Minnesota.
He has played each of the last two seasons in the NHL and has seven points (2g-5a) and 278 penalty minutes in 113 regular season games and one assist and 20 penalty minutes in four playoff games.
