RENO, Nevada – Larry Leasure has narrowed his search for a location for an arena that would be the home for his professional hockey team, the Reno Raiders of the ECHL.
The Boise, Idaho developer said Wednesday that both sites are in the City of Reno. One option would be a privately built arena and the other would a private-public partnership, he said.
Since buying the dormant team six years ago that was the Reno Rage, which ceased operating in the West Coast Hockey League following the 1997-98 season, Leasure has pursued a new arena. After hitting numerous roadblocks over the years, Leasure said he is optimistic that the arena will be built and the Raiders will be playing in the ECHL for the 2007-08 season.
“I do believe that would be the case,” he said. “The timing is right to get this damn thing done.”
“No. 1, I now really believe there’s a solution, a workable solution, in the Reno market. I’ll fight for the right to find that solution. Second, (Reno) is such a logical location for a Western Division. That’s for hockey, basketball and Arena Football.”
