Wranglers Trade For, Sign Edwardson

LAS VEGAS – The Las Vegas Wranglers announced that they have traded center Nathan Martz to the Stockton Thunder in exchange for center Derek Edwardson, who the team subsequently signed.

The Wranglers are the ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League and the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights of the American Hockey League.

In 2004-05 with Atlantic City, the 24-year-old Edwardson finished fourth in voting for Rookie of the Year after tying for the ECHL rookie lead with 41 assists while ranking third among league rookies with 64 points in 69 games. He led Atlantic City in assists and points while tying for the team lead in goals with 23.

He was voted to the ECHL All-Star Game and scored a goal in the National Conference’s 6-2 win and was co-winner of the accuracy shooting competition in the All-Stars Skills Competition.

The 5-foot-9 and 180-pound Edwardson also saw action in the American Hockey League in 2004-05, playing three games with Grand Rapids and registering two penalty minutes in two games with Bridgeport.
